Recruiting Trends for 2018

Around this time of year, many people in the workforce have the thought of, “Is this really what I want to be doing with my life?” An even harder question to answer is, “What do I do next?” It’s not an easy decision and having a passion for a particular type of work should always be a major factor in what path you choose. But it’s also helpful to know what industries are hiring. At CorTalent, we have a unique and experienced point of view on the future of work demands through our deep partnerships with our clients.   We help identify our client’s overall talent requirements. As companies mature and grow, so do their talent needs.  We work to help identify talent in the most competitive industries and in order to stay on top of the growing talent shortages; we proactively build our key talent pipelines.  This allows us to keep a pulse on what’s happening in specific job markets and offer insights into the upcoming trends and consistencies in the labor market.

Biggest Talent Increases

U.S. employers report the strongest hiring intentions in 10 years as employers across the country look to add staff in the first quarter of 2018, according to the latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey. Hiring momentum continues to strengthen, according to the more than 11,500 U.S. employers surveyed. “We’re seeing a renaissance in industries like construction and manufacturing in the U.S.,” said Becky Frankiewicz, president of ManpowerGroup North America. “And these are not the same jobs of the past. Many of these positions are highly skilled roles that will build America’s future. Strong hiring intentions tell us employers have positions to fill, yet we know they’re struggling to find people with the right skills to fill them.” Down the road, technological disruption will touch all industries sooner or later. Because of this technological transition, it’s time for businesses to embrace this change and do more to invest in not only their workers, but the American workforce in general.

Due to these recent optimistic trends, job prospects in the Transportation & Utilities sector nationwide are the strongest reported since the survey started in the first quarter of 1982, while employers in Construction and the Durable Goods Manufacturing sectors forecast the strongest outlooks in more than 10 years! Nationwide, employers in all 13 major industry sectors expect to add staff in Q1 2018. The top outlooks by industry are:

  • Leisure & Hospitality (+28%)
  • Transportation & Utilities (+26%)
  • Professional & Business Services (+23%)*
  • Wholesale & Retail Trade (+23%)
  • Durable Goods Manufacturing (+19%)*
  • Construction (+18%)*
